FIRST LEO’S EVER AT SENIOR LIONS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
February 24 - Because there is a need for developing skills of the young generations, this year in Prague, for the first time ever, two Leo members were allowed to participate in the Senior Lions Leadership Institute.
About 10 years ago the International Association Of Lions Clubs „felt the need of, rather than sitting and waiting for leaders to emerge, to try to identify members with leadership potential and help them develop." said Past International Director Bruno Ahlquist, one of the lecturers of the English class. As a result of this idea the Senior Lions Leadership Institute came into existence.
Since their creation in 1957 Leos have come a long way, and especially the Omega club program which has had an intense development in the past 30 years in certain geographical areas. Since the first Global Leo Conference in 2007 Omega Leos made Lions aware of their growing needs in training.
Two years later the International Board of Directors decided that they will allow 2 Leos to participate in the upcoming Senior Lions Leadership Institute Seminar from 19 - 23 February 2009 which took place in Prague, Czech Republic.

The first two Leos ever to participate were Agnes Kozma, European and Mediterranean ILO council chairperson and Carolin Adler from D 111N Germany. Bonnie Stetz, Lions Clubs International Oak Brook representative on site, informed us that from now on 2 Leos will be allowed to participate in every Senior Lions Leadership Institute in each of the 7 constitutional areas, at least for the coming 3 years.
The institute united 50 participants from 18 different countries. During the 4 days we gained valuable information and skills in 15 areas of training, including the very important Communication, Supporting Teams and Project Management just to mention a few of them.
I hereby would like to take the opportunity to thank our English lecturers Past International Director Nesim Levi, Past International Director Bruno Ahlquist, Past District Governor Mike Hendy and to the German ones Past District Governors Alexander Rist and Leo Barbara Grewe for sharing some of their knowledge and experience with us and contributing this way to our evolution on our paths for becoming better Leos and Lions.
If you are a Leo, and you are interested in joining the next Senior Lions Leadership Institute Seminar in your area don't hesitate to contact your local Lions district or multidistrict governor for more information. The next seminar in Europe will be from 14 - 18 September 2009 in Tampere, Finland.
